The story in the novel revolves around a 15 year old girl of a Punjabi family settled in Delhi, who is kidnapped and raped.
The novel depicts the plight of the parents and shows how they have to struggle to seek justice and recover their lost child. In the process, one sees the functioning of the criminal justice systems, viz. the police, the jails and the judiciary. Finally the accused and acquitted due to the loopholes in the law. The misfortunes of the family do not end here. The parents of the girl are unable to find a suitable match for their daughter because socially she is considered ‘untouchable’.It is a powerful sociological novel depicting the present day conditions.
